Cari Sietstra, Director Of The Period Pills Project, On Period Management, Reproductive Rights & Where We Go From Here
Cari Sietstra is a reproductive health warrior, a global women's abortion rights advocate, and the Director of The Period Pills Project. With a bachelors from Harvard and a JD from Stanford Law School, Cari has dedicated the past 20 plus years to keeping girls and women safe.
Cari first learned about menstrual regulation while working on abortion at the Myanmar-Thailand border, she is well versed in the history and variety of methods women have used to manage their bodies for centuries, and has become well versed in maternal mortality and related topics along the way.
Today on the podcast we are talking about the spectrum of abortion rights in this country, the history of period management worldwide, and the many ways that women and those who love them can keep them safe (in the case of an unwanted pregnancy, an unexpected miscarriage, and so much more). Because while legislators are scrutinizing precedent, and religious scholars and quoting scripture…real life is happening to girls and women worldwide. And Cari's & I both come from families which in their own ways taught us the importance of taking a stand. One thing is for sure: on some level…we only have, and have only ever really had, each other. There is a LOT more we can do than just hope our votes count. Today, Cari is helping us understand that.
